In a battle of the Olympic champions, Brad Gushue of team Canada, the 2006 Olympic gold medallist, defeated the defending Olympic John Shuster of Team USA 10-5 to end a two-game losing streak and improve his record to 3-2 at the Beijing 2022 Olympics. Gushue took two in the ninth and it was fist bumps.
Gushue took a 7-1 advantage into the break with all team members throwing 93 per cent during the first half. Both teams subbed in their alternates ahead of the sixth with Marc Kennedy taking over for Canadian second Brett Gallant.
Shuster did cut the gap to 7-4. After a few more singles, Gushue took two in the ninth and out came the fist bumps.
Gushue’s next game is against Italy’s Joel Retornaz (Monday 1:05 a.m. ET).
