Fieldian Gardens to get a new sponsor and renos

ST JOHN’S, Newfoundland – Mile One is not the only hockey rink to get a new name this year. The historic Fieldian Gardens in Higher Levels has new name sponsors and injection of cash for renovations and upgrades. Welcome to the DF Barnes Arena.

In the presence of some older members of the Fieldian Athletic  Association, Avalon Minor Hockey announced today at an event at the arena that DF Barnes has signed on for a 10 year deal that will put $300,000 dollars into Gardens and its renovations.

Jason Fudge, president of DF Barnes They were looking for a community organization to partnership and And Avalon Minor Hockey and their Fieldian Gardens was a perfect fit. “The Fieldians, The Celtics are organizations steeped in history in St John’s sports and we look forward to continuing that legacy.” Said Fudge.

The Fieldian Gardens was built in the 60’s by the Fieldians sports organization. They would join with the Celtics, another historic sports organization in the city and formed the Avalon Minor Hockey Association. In 2020 Avalon Minor Hockey would buy the building and set out for find a partner to modernize the Fieldian gardens.

Paddy Daly of the Minor Hockey Association says they hope to build a Hall of Fame in the renovated building to display some of the history and artifacts associated with the arena.
