HOLY CROSS CHALLENGE CUP CHAMPIONS

Holy Cross Kirby Group captured their third consecutive provincial title 1-0 Sunday in a game that required extra time and a penalty shoot out.

Holy Cross faced city rivals Stavanger Dental Feildians in a rematch of Friday’s 1-2 page playoff, which Feildians won on penalties. 

On Sunday, Holy Cross was the victor, taking the penalty shoot out 4-2.  All-Star goalie Sam Hawco stopped two of the four Feildians shots, and was named playoff MVP. 

The game was played before a crowd of about 400 at Centennial Field in St. Lawrence.

Holy Cross defeated hometown favourites St.Lawrence Labatt Laurentians in Saturday’s semi final.

Holy Cross will now represent NL when St. John’s hosts the 2019 Toyota National Championships from October 9-14. 

NL is seeded with BC, Alberta, Manitoba and New Brunswick.
