YOUNG NL CLIMBERS GOING TO NATIONALS .

MONTREAL, Quebec:  For the first time since 2008 Newfoundland climbers will be going to the Canadian National Youth Bouldering Championships in Vancouver next month. Erinn Locke, age 16 and Lily Dubrowski, age 14, members of the Newfoundland Junior Climbing Team qualified for the Under 19 nationals at the Quebec Climbing Federation (FQME) Coupe Quebec provincial championships January 21-22 in Montreal. Both finished the qualifying round in 4th place with Dubrowski coming 4th in finals and Locke 6th.  Enough to earn them a spot at the nationals.

Erinn Locke, age 16, is a student at Gonzaga High School and has been climbing since she’s been ten years old and competing in Woman’s Open Class in Newfoundland since she was thirteen. She most recently won the Newfoundland Bloc on The Rock competition in St John’s.

Lily Dubrowski, age 14, has been on the team and competing for the past two years and most recently won the Woman’s Under 19 division at Bloc on The Rock competition in St John’s.

The Newfoundland Junior Climbing Team is an Under 19 team with members age 10 through 19. It is sponsored by the Newfoundland Section of the Alpine Club of Canada and trains at the Wallnuts Climbing Centre in St john’s. They compete in various competitions locally and have traveled to Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario for other provincial and national series.
