Sham
rocks won the 2016 St. John’s senior baseball championship on Thursday night with a 4-3 come from behind win over two time defending champions Roebothan McKay and Marshall Gonzaga Vikings. They win the best of seven final four games to two.
The Shamrocks scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Greg Barry singled to center field and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Next batter Dylan MacKenzie walked and Shamrocks had runners on first and second. Next Batter Jay Warford with a 1-1 count singled to center field and Barry scored from second to give the Shamrocks the title.
Scott Goosney went the distance for the win on an eight hitter. He had seven strikeouts.
Kerian Buckingham in relief of starter Matt Peterson takes the loss. He pitched one third on an inning allowing the one run on two hits.
It was the 22nd senior league championship for the Shamrocks since they were formed in 1990.
