Miller Lite / Platinum Business Solutions pulled into a tie for 5th place at 3-2 with a solid performance against Fun ‘N’ Fast; the team that was tied in 2nd place. Thw winners enjoyed powerful shooting by their skip, Paul Harvey, with the big damage coming on a 3-count in the 7th end (Harvey had blanked the 6th end to hold hammer for that opportunity). The final score was 7-4. The loss by the Jeff Thomas skipped team allowed the team skipped by his Son, Colin, to slip past them into 2nd place. Miller Lite / Platinum Business Solutions now enjoys a 3-game winning streak.
Shelley Nichols Women’s Team 011 002 00 = 4
Team Labatt 000 110 12 = 5
Team Labatt pulled out a 5-4 victory over their rival, the Shelley Nichols Women’s Team, but the win did not come easily. While both teams had opportunities, five of the first 7 ends saw singles scored; three of them steals. By scoring a pair in the 6th end (skip Stacie Curtis ticked a guard trying to pick out a counter with her last stone), Nichols led 4-2 and had hammer coming home leading 4-3. In the 8th end Team Labatt filled the 4-foot circle and Nichols elected to blast away at 3 counters with her last stone, but two of them counted and were the margin of victory.

Colin Thomas Men’s Team 201 010 3x = 7
The score was tied 3-3 at the half with opportunities being missed by inprecise last rock shots in 3 of the 4 ends. After they traded singles, a turning point came in the 7th end. Skip Colin Thomas faced a need to make a run-back double takeout with hammer; a shot that could be made two ways. Like all good skips, he chose the way that he considered the best opportunity to succeed, and threw what he felt was required. Half way down the ice, he turned in disgust seeing that he had missed the shot that was called. Like for all great curlers, the curling gods took over and his stone ended up making the shot the other way that it could be made. A 3 got put on the scoreboard for a 7-4 lead, and Team Thomas ran Team A. Harvey out of rocks in the final end. The loss by Team A. Harvey dropped them into a tie for 10th place in the Standings at 3-4; it will be tough to come back to a playoff position from there.
Team Strong 022 21x = 7
John Sheppard Men’s Team 000 00x = 0
Scoring multiple ends has been identified as a problem for Team Sheppard this season. Their response to that tonightwas that they did not score at all. Team Strong, well familiar with Matthew Hunt (who throws last rocks for Team Sheppard) from his play in the Bally Haly SuperLeague the last couple years, scored a pair in each of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ends for a 6-0 lead at the half. The first came on a short raise with hammer by skip Heather Strong, and Hunt missed draws the next two ends (light on the first and heavy on the second). With another stolen point from a rock coming up short in the 5th end, they decided to call it quits at 7-0. The win moved Team Strong to 3-3 and into a 3-way tie for 7th place in the Standings; still a long way to go for a tie-breaker.

Stavanger Dental 202 100 2x = 7
With a 7-3 victory tonight, Stavanger Dental broke into the win column. Their play in recent games has been boosted by a fine showing in the Bally Haly CashSpiel. Pairs in the first and third ends (which could both have been 3-counts with a precise last rock) and a steal on a measure in the 4th opened up a 5-1 lead at the half, a margin from which Carroll Investments could not recover. Both teams now have 4 losses, but are still mathmatically in the playoff hunt.

Rick Rowsell Men’s Team 300 011 3x = 8
Rick Rowsell Men’s Team held onto first place in the Standings, and extended their season win streak to 9 games, with an 8-4 victory. Team Rowsell (the only team of the 14 remaining undefeated) siezed the few opportunities with which they were presented; a 3-count in the first end when opposing skip Adam Boland was heavy on a draw with backing, a stolen point in the 6th end to open a 5-4 lead (which may have rattled the less experienced Olson Curling Suppliesfoursome), and a second 3-count facing a high-difficulty angle takeout in the 7th end. The loss ended the impressive 4-game League win streak for Olson Curling Supplies. It is also impressive that the young fellows gave the first place team all they could handle in this hard-fought and very meaningful game. Despite the loss, Olson Curling Supplies still holds down a playoff position in the Standings at 4-2; a tie for 3rd place.
