They won it for Kenny. That sums up how and who they won the St. John’s Junior Hockey League championship. They they are the Southern Shore Junior Breakers. The Breakers claimed their first title in 20 years beating Roebothan McKay and Marshall Avalon Capitals all 8-5 to win the best of seven series for games to one.
Long time executive member Kenny Williams with tears running down his face and the smile that stretched from ear to ear came unto the ice to be mobbed by the team to hold the trophy and get his picture taken with the team. The Capitals came out strong in the first period scoring three goals in the first eight minutes of play before hard working Liam Hayes scored to turn the tide for the Breakers. Rookie Blake Dalton led the team with two goals and two assists. Matt Templeman had two goals and one assists, Justin David, Kieran O’Driscoll, Donovan Warren along with Liam Hynes got singles for the Breakers. Andrew Paul and Adam Cains had two each for the Capitals while Coady Barron got a single .
The MVP of the playoffs was Liam Hynes who had a fantastic playoff run for the Breakers.
This marks the second time that these two team meet in the League finals in the last five years. The Southern Shore Junior Breakers now travel to Fredericton New Brunswick on the 25th of April to represent Newfoundland in The Don Johnson Memorial Cup .
