The Soccer Newfoundland has announced its senior male and female athletes of the month for August.
Senior Male – Braedon Sheppard – Feildians
Goalkeeper Braedon Sheppard has been a standout for the Feildians Johnson Insurance Challenge Cup squad throughout the season, helping them to a first-place finish overall, and the right to a double life in Challenge Cup final weekend. In addition to backstopping the team for most of the regular season, Sheppard deftly directing play from the back line, providing encouragement to other members of the squad. Sheppard posted four shutouts in Feildians five-game unbeaten streak during the month of August.
Senior Female – Jane Pope – Holy Cross Avalon Ford
Jane Pope scored the winning goal in her team’s 2-1 victory in the Breen’s Jubilee Trophy championship game, leading Holy Cross Avalon Ford to a third consecutive senior women’s championship. Jane played a strong offensive and defensive game in the final and was named the winner of the Ann Woodford Award as the most effective and sports like person in championship game. In addition to helping her team to a perfect 15-0 record during the regular season, Jane was named to the league’s all-star team.
