Shamrocks have taken the opening game of their best of five St John’s senior baseball semi-final series with Holy Cross.
Dave Penney hit a solo home run in the third and Scott Goosney gets the win as the Green and Gold beat Holy Cross 6-4. Goosney was touched up for ten hits. He walked two and fanned three.
Mike Janes takes the setback. Janes went the distance and allowed the six runs on ten hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Brent power and Kirk Fleming of the winners along with Dean Hammond of Holy Cross had two hits apiece.
Game two in this series goes Thursday at 8:30 at St. Pat’s.
Feildians blasted Roebothan McKay and Marshall Gonzaga Vikings 10-2 as the B semi final series got underway.
Alex Walsh goes five and two thirds innings for the win . He gave up the two runs on nine hits, walked two and struckout four. Jon Walsh came in relief and finishes the game.
Dan Connors goes five and two thirds innings and is tagged wiht the loss. He gave up the five runs on just five hits walked five and struckout eight. Tyler Vincent finished in relief.
No player in the game had more than two hits.
