The Clarenville Caribous have announced they have appointed the first female senior hockey league coach.
Rebecca Russell, who has been an assistant coach with the team, was named the head coach Tuesday by General Manager Ivan Hapgood.
Russell takes over from Hapgood who was bench coach after it was decided that coach Dustin Russell would return as a full time player with the Caribous.
Russell will be head coach with the Caribous when they face Gander Flyers this weekend in Gander.
