Team Symonds from the ReMax Center in St. John’s claimed the National Club championship–The Travelers title– Saturday in Ottawa. Andrew Symonds, the skip and his team of third Mark Healy, Second Cory Ewart and lead Keith Jewer claimed the championship beating Manitoba 6-4 in the title game. The win meant everything to skip Andrew Symonds. “Absolutely unbelievable. We played a pretty good game today as a team and Manitoba gave us a great match,” the skip said after receiving his gold medal. The win moves the Capitals into a first place tie with C-B-R Renegades. Both teams have 20 points.   S U N D A Y  The Ice Caps extended their point streak to eight games as they defeated the Toronto  Marlies 5-1 in a penalty-laden game Sunday afternoon. Morgan Ellis, Bud Holloway and Charles Hudon picked up three points each, all notching a goal and two assists. Rookies Daniel Carr and Mark MacMillan each added singles to propel the Ice Caps over the Marlies. MacMillan’s goal was the first of his pro-career. S U N D A Y Danny Wicks and Rodi Short tallied twice each and the first place Cataracts skate to a 6-2 win over the Gander Flyers and a sweep of their weekend series.
