The Eagles skated to a 5-2 decision over the second place St. John’s Caps Monday night at the Goulds Arena. FIRE AT BAY ARENA

The St. John’s Junior Hockey League game at the Bay Arena scheduled for Friday night has been postponed because of a fire at the Arena.The Roebothan McKay and Marshall Avalon Capitals were to play the CBN Jr Stars. There was a fire in the electrical panel in the around the area of the ice compressor. Staff worked quickly and extinguished the fire.   Canada’s two senior soccer competitions – the men’s Challenge Trophy and women’s Jubilee Trophy – will return to St. John’s, Newfoundland Labrador in October 5 to 10, 2016. The two Sport Chek National Championship competitions return to Canada’s most eastern city for the first time since 2008.   The Sport Chek National Championships are Canada’s premier amateur soccer competitions, with provincial and territory winners pitted against each other at the senior and youth levels on the national stage. The rumours persist that former Newfoundland NHL star Michael Ryder will be playing with the Clarenville Caribous after the Christmas break in the Central West Senior Hockey League. Ryder had played last season with the New Jersey Devils and has not played this season. The Bonavista Native has returned home.   Ivan Hapgood is the General Manager of the Clarenville Caribous.
