CENTRAL WEST HOCKEY BEGINS NOV 4TH

    The Central West senior hockey league will start its 2017-18 season Saturday November 4th. The opening weekend games will see Gander Flyers hosting the Clarenville Caribous. Grand Falls Windsor Cataracts are the other team. The teams will play a 20 game schedule which includes eight games against the East Coast Senior Hockey League. They will play the east teams twice.     The best of seven St. John’s Intermediate Baseball final series is now a best two out of three affair.   OMT Shamrocks tied the best of seven final at two games each as they downed Holy Cross 5-1 thanks to a four run second inning.   Ben Murphy goes the distance to get the win.         The Newfoundland women’s team  off to playoffs at national soccer play downs in Surry BC.   Holy Cross won a bronze medal at the Canadian women’s Jubilee soccer. They lost 3-nothing to Alberta and come away with their first bronze medal.       Holy Cross men’s team finished seventh. They beat New Brunswick 6-nothing. SHAMROCKS WIN 23RD SR BASEBALL CROWN

        OMT Shamrocks are St. John’s senior baseball champions for the 23rd time.   The Shamrocks scored a run in the top of the 9th to edge Roebothan McKay and Marshall Gonzaga vikings 9-8 and sweep the best of seven final.   Ben Murphy the third pitcher used by the Shamrocks gets the win.
