  S U N D A Y    The St. John’s Caps are the East Coast Senior Hockey League champions. John Ryan scored at 4:16 of overtime to give the Caps a 5-4 win over Southern Shore Breakers. They win the best of seven final four games to two and now face Clarenville Caribous in a best of seven final for the Herder Memorial Trophy. SEMI FINALISTS SET IN METRO BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS

Dr Leslie Moss Professional Medical Corporation and M5 advanced to the semi-finals of the Metro Basketball League.   In quarter final play Thursday night   Dr Leslie Moss defeated Marco Construction 55-50. John Madden led the winners with 25 points. Brad Drover had 20 for the losers.   M5 moved on with a close 50-44 win over Maries.   Despite the skeptics–The St. John’s Edge Basketball team has been a success story.   To date the Edge have been competitive fighting for first place in their division and also making the playoffs in their first season.   Figures in attendance show the team has been a success at the box office.   The team has played 16 home games and have drawn a total of 51 thousand 260 fans to their games. That’s an average of 3203.75 fans per game. And remember the team said they needed at least 15 hundred fans per game to break even.  …

EDGE FINISH ROAD TRIP WITH WIN

  The Edge finished their last regular season road game with a convincing win 118-103 over Niagara River Lions on Thursday night. Charles Hinkle led the winners with a 35 point performance. Wally Ellenson backed him with 32 points.
