ICECAPS FINISH ROAD TRIP WITH A WIN

S U N D A Y 

Sunday the Icecaps picked up their second win of the season beating Hartford 4-2.  They have two wins and four losses to start the season after six games on the road.
They return home for their season home opener Friday at Mile One and former Habs great Guy LaFleur will be at the game.

 

S A T U R D A Y 

The St. John’s IceCaps lost  5-4 in  overtime to the Springfield Thunderbirds Saturday night..

 

The IceCaps were ahead 2-1 after the first. They added a single in the second period for a 3-1 lead after two. The Ice Caps had what appeared to be a good 4-2 lead in the third but the Springfield squad came back and tied the contest.

 

The Thunderbirds then get a goal by MacKenzie Weegar at 1:42 of overtime to get the victory.

 

Charles Hudon scored  a pair of powerplay goals to pace the IceCaps; Chris Terry collected a goal and three assists; Sven Andrighetto registered a goal and two helpers and Mark Barberio chipped in with two assists.

 

Goaltender Yann Danis made his IceCaps debut in the loss.

The IceCaps are in action again Sunday  (6:30 p.m.) at the Hartford Wolf Pack.

The St. John’s IceCaps topped the Providence Bruins 4-1 on Friday night to pickup their first win of the A-H-L season.

 

lindgrenCharlie Lindgren stopped 50 of the 51 shots he faced. It was Lindgren’s first time between the pipes for IceCaps this season.

 

The IceCaps came out strong, picking up three straight goals. Nikita Scherbak started  the scoring with a dandy goal in the first period from Stefan Matteau. Charles Hudon went on to score the game-winner in the second (assisted by captain Max Friberg), while Markus Eisenschmid capitalized on a turnover just 24 seconds later.

 

The Bruins fired  20 shots at Lindgren in the third period  – but could only sneak one past him. Defenceman Alex Grant scored  for Providence late in the third.

 

The Bruins took their goalie out in favour of the extra attacker in the final minutes,

However,the IceCaps answered with an empty-netter from Sven Andrighetto to seal the win.

The IceCaps continue on the road Saturday night, facing the Springfield Thunderbirds at 8:35 pm island time .
