Rookie centre Michael McCarron scored his first hat trick as the St. John’s IceCaps thumped the Rochester Americans 6-2 Saturday night at Mile One Centre. The IceCaps swept the two-game series.
Christian Thomas scored for the second straight game and added two assists with Joel Hanley adding a goal and an assist and Morgan Ellis a single.
Dustin Tokarski made 29 saves on 31 shots.

The St. John’s Ice Caps made their home debut successful on Friday night as they skated to a 5-2 win over the Rochester Americans.
Tied 1-1 after the first the Ice Caps added a pair of goals in the second and third period to take the win before the hometown crowd.
Sven Andrighetto and Christian Thomas had two goals each for the Ice Caps and Bud Holloway with an empty net goal late in the third.
Zachary Fucale was in goal for the victory and made 29 saves.
