GROWLERS WIN IN SHOOTOUT

The Newfoundland Growlers never completed the come from behind victory Saturday night in Reading after falling behind by 2 goals early in the first period. The Growlers would claw back to eventually dethrone the Royals in the clubs first ever shootout with a  4-3 victory.

The Reading Royals opened the scoring with two quick goals just one minute apart at 15:35 and 16:25.,

Zach O’Brien would spur the Growlers late in the first by beating Callum Booth who was scrambling after a quick from Marcus Power pass. Alex Gudbranson would tie the game with 15 seconds left in the first from a quick blast from the point.

The Royals would snap back at the Growlers at 13:34 of the second as Alex Roos would beat Garteig to put the Royals up 3-2.

Late in the period, once again, the Growlers would tie the game as Marcus Power snuck one by Booth off a deflection from a Matt Bradley point shot.

The game would remain tied throughout the third period and overtime, forcing the game into a shootout. This would mark the first shootout in Newfoundland Growlers history.

The shootout would be decided in the 5th round as Marcus Power slid the puck past a sprawling Callum Booth to secure the 4-3 Growlers victory.
