GROWLERS NOW HAVE 8 STRAIGHT WINS

The Newfoundland Growlers extended their winning streak to eight games Saturday with a 5-2 decision over the Reading Royals.

Just 1:25 into the first period Hudson Elynuik scored his first pro goal to give the Growlers a 1-0 lead. The Royals would respond late in the period from the stick of Steven Swavely to even the score after the first 20 minutes of play.

Growlers goalie, Mario Culina would face 19 shots in the first period, en route to a 40 save performance.

The Growlers would pump 2 goals past Royals netminder Austin Lotz in the second period, the first, from J.J Piccinich and the second from Todd Skirving.

Zach O’Brien would score 4:43 into the third period, his fourth goal this weekend against the Reading Royals to give the Growlers a 4-1 lead and they never looked back  Nick Luukko would respond for the Royals in the third, but Sam Babintsev would add a late game empty-net goal to secure the 5-2 victory.

The Newfoundland Growlers notched their seventh straight victory Friday as they beat Reading in  overtime 5-4.

Zach O’Brien got his first of three goals in this contest as he opened the scoring early at the 4:00 minute mark of the first period with a quick deflection past the Royals goaltender Austin Lotz.

Stefan Leblanc scored his second of the season just 26 seconds into the second period to give the Growlers a 2-0 advantage, however, the Royals would score 2 quick ones from Swavely and MacDonald to tie the game at 2 by the 6:25 point of the second.

Swavely would add his second of the game just 5 minutes later to put the Royals ahead by one.

O’Brien would bring to Growlers even with the Royals with his second of the game 2:31 into the third period, Sam Babintsev would tuck home a pass from Kyle Cumiskey just moments later to establish another Growlers lead with 15 minutes left in the third.

The Royals would tie the game late as Josh MacDonald would beat Michael Garteig with just under 2 minutes left in the game to force overtime.

O’Brien would record the first ever Hat-Trick in franchise history with his game-winning overtime goal at 3:03 into the extra frame.
