Zach Fucale gets his first professional hockey career shutout and the first shutout of the season by the IceCaps as they blank the Syracuse Crunch 4-nothing at Mile One. Fucale made 36 saves in this game as the Crunch outshot the Ice Caps 36-20.
Nikita Scherbak scored what proved to the the game winning goal at 9:45 of the first period on the power play. Michael McCarron made it a 2-nothing game with a power play goal at 14:55 of the second period. Morgan Ellis made it 3-nothing in the third and Gabriel Dumont added an empty net goal.
Dumont’s empty net goal was weird. Bud Holloway had a breakaway and the Syracuse net was empty–he hit the post on his shot and calmly got the puck back and passes to Dumont who put it away.
That win ended a five game losing streak by the Ice Caps.
