3 mins read

The St. John’s Edge have announced their 2018-19 Opening Day Roster.

The current roster stands at 14 players, with 9 listed as Guards, 4 Forward’s, and one at the Center position.

The roster increased to 14 with the recent additions of Maverick Morgan (6’10”/Springboro, Ohio/University of Illinois) who last suited up for GTK Gliwice in Poland, as well as, Keith Wright Jr. (6’8”/Suffolk, Virginia/Harvard University) who last suited up for the Westchester Knicks (NBA G-League) in 2016-17. Another last-minute addition to the roster as of Tuesday, is Diego Kapelan (6’3”/Vancouver, B.C./McNeese State University), who spent time recently with Siaulliai in Lithuania. The 2018-19 roster is bolstered by three members of last season’s St. John’s Edge, Dez Lee, Jarryn Skeete, and Newfoundland’s own Carl English. In 2018-19 the St. John’s Edge will have depth at the guard position, the signings of Guillaume Boucard, Junior Cadougan, and Maurice Jones Sr. who are all strong options with experience in the NBL Canada, with Jones a former Rookie of the Year with the Windsor Express and Cadougan a former NBL Canada Champion with the London Lightning. A strong focus on veteran presence is existent in this year’s lineup with key off-season signings Gabe Freeman and Todd Brown Jr. expected to play both at the guard and forward position at some point this season. Freeman is the NBL of Canada’s All-Time leading rebounder, while Brown Jr. has spent 7 professional seasons in some of Europe’s top leagues.

The rookie class remains strong, with sharp-shooting Jared Nickens and speedy guard Kevin Zabo cracking the roster for the St. John’s Edge. Finally, the arrival of the 7’2” Satnam Singh rounds out the roster. Singh is the first and only Indian-born player to be drafted to the NBA and his arrival in the capital city has been nothing short of buzz-worthy. The Edge will be carrying 6 Canadian’s, with the NBL Canada rule stating that each team is required to carry a minimum of 5 Canadian-born players on their roster.

The Edge start their season Sunday against London Lightning and on 21st play Windsor.

They open their home schedule at Mile One November 23rd against Moncton
