1 min read

CLARENVILLE, NL – The Deer Lake Red Wings defeated the Clarenville Ford Caribous by a score of 4 to 1 on Saturday night to sweep the 2025 Herder Memorial Championship series in four straight games. It is their first championship win since 2005.

Red Wings goalie Bryan Gillis was the winner of the Cliff Gorman Memorial Award for MVP of the series.

The Herder Memorial Trophy was first presented by Ralph Herder of the Evening Telegram Limited in 1935 as a memorial of his five brothers Arthur, Hubert, William, Douglas, and Gus.  Ralph, his youngest brother Jim, and Ralph’s son Stephen were later named to the trophy.  The brother’s father, William James Herder, founded the Evening Telegram in 1879. The trophy is emblematic of the Provincial Senior Hockey Championship.
