Upset in the opening game of the Corner Brook senior baseball best of five semi-final series Thursday night at Jubilee Field.
The fourth place Monarchs edged the first place Hawks 5-4 in a game that took eight innings to complete.
The finish was dramatic as Steve Shephard slammed a solo home run to give the win to the monarchs.
Michael Tavenor gets the win in this game. He went the distance allowed six hits, walked two and registered ten strikeouts.
Veteran Frank Humber is tagged with the loss. He went the distance as well allowing nine hits no walks and six strikeouts.

In the second semi-final game Aces have taken a one game lead as they beat Marlins 11-8 pounding out 14 hits as did the Marlins.
Ryan Harnett gets the win. He goes three and two thirds innings allows eight runs on 11 hits. He walks three and fans one. Brian Bennett comes in relief.
Mark McWhirter takes the loss. He was touched for ten hits eight runs walked and fanned two. Sean Anderson finished up.
