GAME TWO

There’s an old saying in baseball circles that walks can hurt you. That happened to Corner Brook Barons in game  two of the provincial senior baseball final series Saturday night at St. Pat’s.

A bases loaded walk to St. John’s Capitals batter Scott Stockley by Matt Colbourne in the bottom of the tenth inning gave the St. John’s Capitals a come-from-behind 11-10 win over the Barons. That win gives the Capitals a two game to none lead in the best of seven series.

Also it should be noted that pitcher Scott Goosney picked up his second win in the same day at the final series. Earlier in the day Goosney pitched a five inning no hitter as the Caps blanked the Barons 10-nothing. Goosney was one of five pitchers used by the Caps. Dan Connors started, Sean Janes, Kieran Buckingham and Alex Walsh also saw mound duty.

A J Whiffen started for the Barons and Colbourne came on in relief.

Peter Madden was the top hitter for the Caps going four for five. Dave Parsons was four for five for the Barons.

The two teams pounded out 28 hits.
