The Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association (NLSA) is getting ready for a busy summer season with action to start in May in provincial league play, and Challenge Cup and Jubilee Trophy action. The group held its annual Spring Planning Meeting (SPM) April 8-9 in St. John’s with approximately 40 delegates in attendance from clubs and teams from around the province and St.Pierre-Miquelon. The meeting is an important session for the entire soccer community, with plans and schedules finalized for the summer season.
“We’re looking forward to another busy summer, with lots of great competition, and I want to thank all the teams and clubs who participated over the weekend,” said NLSA President Doug Redmond. “It’s the combined commitment of our players, coaches, officials and volunteers that make this one of the biggest sports in the province, and keep our association strong.”
Highlights:
The St. John’s region will host the national Challenge Cup and Jubilee Trophy tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend, and in July, will host the GU13 & GU14 Atlantics.

NLSA Youth VP Judi Kelloway has been named Chair of Canada Soccer’s Competitions’ Committee. The committee is responsible for the policies surrounding the regulations, administration, operation and promotion of the National Competitions Program. Judi has been a member of the committee since 1999.

Seven teams are confirmed including defending champion Holy Cross, as well as St. Lawrence, Mount Pearl, Feildians, CBS and Corner Brook. They will be joined by the Canada Games Boys team, who will play on an exhibition basis. Games will start May 14. The Burin Peninsula Soccer Association (BPSA)will host the championship weekend from September 2-4.
