The St. John’s Edge picked up their ninth win of the season against six losses as they beat Cape Breton Highlanders 102-95 Tuesday night.

Maurice Jones senior led the Edge with 26 points and Desmond Lee backed him with 21.

Edge next game is Thursday when they play St. John.

The St. John’s Edge continued their winning ways on Saturday night at the Avenir Centre in Moncton as they defeated the Magic 98-86.

During the first half, the Edge worked to try and find their touch, shooting the ball often but unable to convert on opportunities.

The Magic would take a 9-point lead into the second quarter where the Edge would work to gain some ground and go into the half down by just 7 points.

In the third quarter, it remained the same, with Moncton extending their lead at one point to as much as 21. However, the Edge stayed persistent, pulling down offence rebounds and finding their way to the hoop on route to erasing that lead half way through the fourth quarter of play. Strong defence and steady offensive possessions would allow the Edge to outscore their opponents 33-10 in the final quarter on route to their sixth win in a row.

The comeback is one of the biggest of the season in the NBL Canada and was a testament to the hustle and conditioning of the St. John’s Edge.

On the night, St. John’s were able to out-rebound their opponents 52-45 in the victory, they were also able to convert on more second-chance opportunities, with their bench out-scoring Moncton’s 38-14.

Offensively the Edge were again led by Dez Lee who dropped 25 points in the win on Saturday and was a catalyst in their comeback. Right behind Lee was Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis who dropped a season-high 20 points with 7 rebounds, while causing problems in the post for the Magic defence.

Another notable performer for the Edge was Obie Oleka who recorded another double-double pulling down 16 rebounds to go along with 10 points. Through five games played, Oleka is averaging 12.2 rebounds.

The Magic were led by Billy White who scored 24 points and Corey Allmond who dropped 22 points in a losing effort.
