The Florida Everblades got a split with the Newfoundland Growlers Saturday night as they picked up a 3-2 win.

Giorgio Estephan had the only goal in the opening frame to give the home team  1-0 lead.

Florida tied the game  up at 4:19 of the second period when Kyle Platzer fired the puck in an empty net to make it 1-1. The Everblades followed that up with a powerplay goal at 9:41 of the second period when Steven Lorentz gave the Everblades a 2-1 lead.

With just over three minutes to play in the second period Sam Babintsev scored to tie the game at 2-2. For Babintsev’s it was his second goal in as many nights.

Before a jammed pack sell out house the Newfoundland Growlers made their fans go home happy.

In their franchise first game the Growlers defeated the Florida Everblades 3-2.

Kristians Rubins scored the historic first goal in franchise history when he cleaned up a scrum in front of the Everblades net and slid it past Jeremy Helvig at 17:13 of the opening frame. The goal also marked Rubins’ first professional goal in his first professional game. Scott Pooley had the assist.

Matt Bradley increased the Growlers lead to 2-0 at 6:58 of the third period putting one under the glove hand of Helvig off a nice Scott Pooley pass, giving Pooley his second assist of the evening.

The Everblades cut the lead to 2-1 at 10:27 of the third period when Kyle Platzer drove to the net and tucked it in under McAdam’s pad on the power play. Nick Schilkey had the lone assist.

The Growlers restored their two-goal lead a little over two minutes as Sam Babintsev redirected a Marcus Power feed for the marker.

The Everblades started to make a comeback with their second power play goal of the game.  Mathieu Foget scored at 1:14 to make it a one-goal game but that was as close as Florida would come as the Growlers held on for the 3-2 win.
