Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer has named its athletes of the month for July.
Senior Female – Jessie Noseworthy, Holy Cross Women
Jessie Noseworthy of Holy Cross was instrumental in her team’s successful July run in Breen’s Jubilee Trophy action. Noseworthy continued to show hear ability to finish in front of the net with seven goals in seven games and sits atop the leader board in women’s scoring. Her Holy Cross Crusaders won all seven of their games in July and hold down first place in the league with twelve wins, one loss and one tie.
Senior Male – John Douglas, St. Lawrence Laurentians
John Douglas had four shutouts in the five games he played during the month, helping solidify the Laurentian’s hold on first place in Molson Challenge Cup play with some outstanding saves. St. Lawrence picked up 13 of a possible 15 points during the month. Douglas now has six shutouts during the Challenge Cup season, and has been goalkeeper coach for the Canada Games Men’s team which starts action in Winnipeg next week.
Junior Female – Jessie Ball, CBS Strikers & U13 Provincial Team
Jessie Ball of Paradise is strong forward capable of finding the mark on her own, or setting others up for success in front of the net. Jessie’s month started in PEI with the GU13 Provincial team, which earned a bronze medal at the Atlantic Championships. She was the team’s only goal scorer during regulation time. Jessie has also played a key role for the CBS strikers in July, which went unbeaten 6-0-1 during this period. She scored four goals and set up countless others. With her leadership and hard work she has helped her team to climb to the top of the GU13 standings.
Junior Male – Daniel Courage – St. John’s Rep Boys U15 and NL Boys U14
Daniel had a successful July with both his club and his provincial team. His versatility allowed him to contribute to the NLSA Boys U14 in the back row, in central midfield and on the wing. He provided strong play through the round robin games and he added a goal in the 2-1 gold medal victory over New Brunswick after missing the first half due to a foot injury. Daniel also scored five goals, including a hat trick, this month for St. John’s Rep U15 where he plays both wing back and on the wing. He is a first-year U15 player who brings consistently strong performances to each match. He makes good use of touch, effort, and vision to win battles against more physically imposing opponents. These qualities have enabled Daniel to make positive contributions at both ends of the pitch this season.
