BEARS GET SPLIT WITH ICE CAPS

The St. John’s IceCaps could not complete the comeback and were topped by the Hershey Bears 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Mile One Centre.

 

Riley Barber scored the only first period goal for the Bears as they grabbed a 1-nothing lead . The teams played through a scoreless second frame.

 

Jakub Vrana gave the  Hershey  squad a 2-nothing lead in the third period.

 

Chris Terry  scored the lone IceCaps goal on the power play with just under five minutes left in regulation time.

 

Hershey’s netminder Pheonix Copley stopped 35 of 36 shots while IceCaps goaltender Charlie Lindgren turned aside 26 shots .

 

The IceCaps finish up their home stand next Friday and Saturday against the Binghamton Senators (7:30PM).

 

 

S A T U R D A Y 

Keegan Lowe scored the game winning goal with just 15.6 seconds left on the clock as the St. John’s IceCaps topped the Hershey Bears at Mile One Centre on Saturday afternoon.

 

Julien Brouillette scored his third of the season to kick off the scoring off a play from Nikita Scherbak. Tyler Lewington tied it up for the Bears about three minutes later, and his teammate Travis Boyd would add another tally shortly after to give Hershey the lead. Chris Bourque added another marker late in the first to lift the Bears lead to 3-1.

 

St. John’s fired back in the second, scoring two goals to tie it up. Jeremy Gregoire tapped in a loose puck off of a drive from Ryan Johnston and Stefan Matteau, followed by the equalizer from Yannick Veilleux (Max Friberg, Jacob de la Rose).

 

The third period went scoreless for both teams until IceCaps defenceman Lowe fired a rocket past Hershey netminder Pheonix Copleyy for the win. Copley stopped 25 shots in the loss, while St. John’s netminder Charlie Lindgren stood tall for 26-of-19 shots.

 

The IceCaps rematch the Hershey Bears Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM.
