The Rochester Americans edged the St John’s IceCaps 3-2 Saturday night in A-H-L play in Rochester.
IceCaps’ Max Friberg kicked off the scoring late in the first off a play from Stefan Matteau. The Americans answered with back-to-back goals in the second from Mike Aviana and Taylor Fedun to take the lead.
Yannick Veilleux scored for the second time in as many nights to send the game to overtime. Brett Lernout and David Broll picked up the helpers on the tally.
The IceCaps went shotless in the extra frame while Rochester’s Justin Bailey scored on their third attempt for the win. Netminder Yann Danis made 26 saves in the loss. St. John’s is now sporting a three-game point streak.
The IceCaps will take a short Christmas break and return to action on Boxing Day (Dec. 26) to face the Toronto Marlies at the Ricoh Coliseum.

Charlie Lindgren kicked out 33 shots and records his first professional shutout as the St. John’s IceCaps downed the Utica Comets 3-0 Friday .
The first period of this game was scoreless. Yannick Veilleux – with his first of the season – gave the IceCaps to a 1-0 lead at 1:58 of the second with what turned out to be the game winning goal. Jeremy Gregoire upped the IceCaps lead to 2-0 at 8:24 of the third.
Daniel Audette’s power play goal at 14:04 of the third period rounded out the scoring for the visitors.
The IceCaps are in action again Saturday night (8:30 p.m.) against the Rochester Americans.
