QUEBEC MAYOR SAYS NO TO HOCKEY TEAM FROM DEAN MACDONALD

1 min read

Mayor Jean Lamarche has informed Newfoundland businessman Dean MacDonald that his plans to install an East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) team at the future Coliseum in Trois-Rivières will not take place. The municipal councilors were said not to have been consulted.

The businessman sent a letter to the municipal councilors of Trois-Rivières, of which Radio-Canada obtained a copy, to inform them that Mayor Lamarche had rejected his business proposal, alleging that the City of Trois-Rivières chose to go in another direction.

Dean MacDonald already has a team from this league that serves as a school club for the National Hockey League (NHL) teams. These are the Growlers, who play in Saint-Jean-de-Terre-Neuve in the ECHL, a caliber lower than the American league.

The Newfoundlander wanted to install another ECHL team in Trois-Rivières, which would be affiliated with the Montreal Canadiens and the Laval Rocket.

While the Mayor has turned down the request THE SPORTSPAGE has learned that the entire Council will vote on this matter next Tuesday. The matter apparently has to go before the entire council for a vote..
