4 TO BE INDUCTED IN ST JOHNS BASEBALL HALL OF FAME

The St. John’s Baseball Association Hall of Fame will increase by four new members this week. Three players and a builder will be inducted at a ceremony at St. John’s City Hall at the E B Foran Room at 7:30 . Those to be inducted are

 Derek (Dick) Collins  Player)

Pitcher Dick Collins played for over twenty years in the St. John’s Baseball League. Performing with Mt. Pearl, Feildians, Gonzaga and Shamrocks, his strong right arm was a key to several city titles. Against perennial rival Corner Brook, Dick took the mound for more than a decade, delivering championship-winning clutch performances. Dick  Collins was a workhorse who loved to take the mound.

        Sean Gulliver (Player)

Finding a baseballer in our province who has a more extensive resume than Sean Gulliver would be a tough task. He played 36 years for Shamrocks, winning 20 senior championships. As a player and coach he added another two dozen provincial crowns. His unparalleled success as a minor, junior and senior coach, his early-career umpiring and his work as a baseball executive and professional scout bespeak the starry uniqueness of his career.

          Mario Tee (Player)

Mario Tee’s career was short but outstanding. He was a pitching star who led Shamrocks to four city titles in the early 2000’s. Provincially, he was a stalwart for the St. John’s Capitals and had some of his best games against the Corner Brook Barons. At the national senior level Mario was clearly one of our province’s most effective hurlers. Mario Tee is one of only two pitchers in the history of the St. John’s Baseball league to throw a perfect game(Bill Harris turned the trick 70 years ago).

         Bernie Davis (Builder)

Starting as a young player with Guards, Bernie Davis would contribute extensively to the growth of the St. John’s Baseball League. He moved from playing into coaching the Guards junior and senior teams, the junior Capitals and the senior Capitals.

His first role on the league executive was as treasurer. He eventually took over  as league president, serving ably for a number of years and trying always to improve the facilities at St. Pat’s Field and the league itself.
