MOUNT PEARL, NL – The Mount Pearl Marlins hosted the Sink or Swim swim meet over this past weekend Nov 19-21 at the Mount Pearl Summit Centre. Over 200 athletes took part in the 36 short and medium-distance events with swimmers breaking both provincial and club records despite almost two years without an official meet.
Teams came from Corner Brook, Stephenville, Port Aux Basque, Gander, Carbonear, CBS and St. John’s. Over 50 officials volunteered through out the weekend. Many swimmers qualified for higher level competitions at Provincial Championships to Eastern Canadian Nationals. Three provincial records were broken; James traverse from CBS Bluefins broke the 11-12 age group 50m free and 50m back records and Joel Thomas of Mount Pearl Marlins broke the 50m breast for 13-14 year old record.
