Three young competition climbers will be representing Newfoundland and Labrador at the Canadian National Youth Bouldering championships this week at Delire Escalade in Quebec City.
Erinn Locke, age 17, Lily Dubrowsk, 15 and Nathan Hesketh, 16, all earned a place at nationals after competing in the Quebec Cup provincial championships and Climbing Escalade Canada national qualifiers last month in Montreal. Locke placed 3rd with a bronze medal in Woman’s Junior, Dubrowski 6th in Woman’s Youth B and Hesketh 7th in Men’s Youth A.
This past weekend they competed in the Newfoundland Youth Boulders competition at Wallnuts Climbing Centre in St John’s where Locke came 1st in Woman’s Under 19, Lily Dubrowski 2nd and Nathan Hesketh 1st in Men’s.
For Locke and Dubrowski its their second trip to nationals. They qualified last year and it was the first time Newfoundland has sent athletes to the national championships.
