Gabriel Dumont netted a shorthanded goal while Charles Hudon scored a powerplay marker but not enough as the St. John’s IceCaps fell 3-2 to the Rochester Americans in a shootout Wednesday night.
The IceCaps fell behind 1-0 after the first period but Dumont tied the game just 22 seconds into the second period with the IceCaps on the penalty kill. Rochester regained the lead just a minute and 20 seconds later before Hudon squared the contest at two with a man advantage at 16:31 of the second. The third period and overtime were scoreless. Cal O’Reilly scored the winner in the shootout as Rochester outscored St. John’s 3-1 in the breakaway contest.
The IceCaps are in action again tonight as they visit the Binghamton Senators.
