The first game of the Kelly Cup ECHL finals should have been one the Newfoundland Growlers should have won in regulation time. They let a 3-nothing lead in the third period slip away and let Toledo tie the game at three all and force overtime.

The hometown crowd of 6261 jumped to their feet as Josh Kestner fired home his second goal of the game at 4:48 of the extra session to give the Growlers the 4-3 win and a 1-nothing lead in the series.

Zack O’Brien and Hudson Elynuik had the other goals for the Growlers.

Michael Garteig was again stellar in goal for the Growlers making 30 saves many from close in.

Game two goes Sunday night at seven at Mile One and if game one is any indication this is going to be a great series. Action was fast there was some heavy hitting and great goal tending.
