Growlers lose to Railers 5-2

CONCEPTION BAY SOUTH, Newfoundland – Newfoundland Growlers lose to Worchester Railers 5-2 on Saturday in the second game of a three game run at the CBS Arena.

The Newfoundland Growlers came out strong but the Railers railed in period 2 and 3.  Matteo Pietroniro got the Growlers on the board first to make it 1-0 eight minutes into the first period.

Blake Christensen would score for the Railers  just before the midway mark of the second period. Less than three minutes later, the Railers would get another as Jacob Hayhurst put one away on the power play to make it 2-1 Railers after 40 minutes played.

In the third period Growler’s Trent Bourque jumped up in the rush and got one past Appleby just two minutes after the intermission to tie things at 2.

From there, Worcester turned things on to ensure their win and rattled off three unanswered goals midway through the third. Ross Olsson, Drew Callin, and Liam Coughlin provided the goals for the Railers to make the final 5-2.

Railers outshot Growlers 40-32 on goal.

With nine games done in the season the growlers top the North Division with 7 wins, 2 losses and 0 ties.
