CAPS WIN EAST CROWN. HEADED TO HERDER

The St. John’s Caps are the East Coast Senior Hockey League champions.

John Ryan scored at 4:16 of overtime to give the Caps a 5-4 win over Southern Shore Breakers. They win the best of seven final four games to two and now face Clarenville Caribous in a best of seven final for the Herder Memorial Trophy.

Matthew Fewer, Patrick Power, Mike Druken and Mark Rideout had the other Caps goals in regulation time.

Brandon Pyes second goal of the game at 19:53 of the third period forced the game into the extra session. Daniel Dalton and Steve Fowler had the other goals for the Shore.

Jeremy Barron’s goal at 11:36 of the second overtime period earned the St. John’s Caps a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Southern Shore Breakers in game five of the East Coast Hockey final.

 

That win gives the Caps a three games to two lead in the best of seven finals.

 

Roger Penders goal at 10:59 of the third period tied the game at three all and forced the overtime sessions.

 

Mike Druken and Mark Rideout had the other Caps goals.

 

Brandon Pye, Blake Dalton and Michael Chafe had the goals for the Breakers.

Game six will be played Sunday at 8 at Mobile.

 

The winner of this playoff series will play Clarenville Caribous for the Herder Memorial Trophy.
