ST. JOHN’S – Known as the toughest road race in North America the Orange Theory Cape To Cabot was won today by Michael Kondro in a time of 1:21:27.
The 20km course winds its way from Cape Spear to Cabot Tower in Signal Hill. With elevations gains from sea level to 167 metres (501 feet) and several steep uphill and downhill sections the last mile is the 500 foot hill climb to the finish with average angles of 45 degrees.
Top female runner was Stephanie Nevin with a 12th overall finish and a time of 1:28:50
The heavy rain all week held off but high head winds at the start slowed runners off their expected pace.
Florence Barron, age 83, was back for another year finished with a time of 2:15:19.
Michael Dawe, a former Memorial University varsity athlete, long-distance runner and Ironman triathlete, has been running to help conquer cancer. He was diagnosed earlier this year. See his story on CBC NL!.
