The City of St John’s has announced that its St John’s Sports and Entertainment company has reached a three year agreement that will see the Growlers ECHL hockey team return to city owned Mile One stadium for the coming season. No financial details or how much the city will subsidize the team and controversial stadium were released.
Dean McDonald, owner of the Growlers, had tried to buy the stadium and had planned a $25 million renovation.
City councillor and Chair of St John’s Sports and Entertainment, Jamie Korab, said tickets for the coming season would be on sale shortly. Opening weekend is expected to be Nov 5-7.
