Softball NL 2016 Adult Division Award Winners

 

Softball Newfoundland Labrador and the Softball NL Awards Committee are extremely pleased to announce that the following Adult Division Awards (Senior Female Player of the Year, Senior Male Player of the Year, Junior Female Player of the Year, Junior Male Player of the Year and Coach of the Year) will be presented at the Softball NL 2016 Hall Of Fame Ceremony and 2016 Awards Presentation taking place on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Legion Road, Conception Bay South commencing at 6:30pm.

 

The Softball NL 2016 Adult Division Award Winners are:

 

Reagan Myers (Senior Female Player of the Year)

Sean Cleary (Senior Male Player of the Year)

Brittany McCarthy (Junior Female Player of the Year)

Nick Pittman (Junior Male Player of the Year)

Jim Dunphy (Adult Coach of the Year)

 

Reagan Myers (Senior Female Player of the Year)

Chapel’s Cove native Reagan Myers enjoyed success on the local softball diamond and represented Newfoundland Labrador at two National Championships in 2016. Reagan helped her Impact Signs team capture the St. John’s Ladies Fastpitch League Championship, was named Playoff MVP and was named her teams Most Outstanding Player for the 2016 season. Reagan was a member of the U18 NL Marina Shore Selects that represented the Province at the U18 Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship in Charlottetown, PEI and the U21 NL Selects that represented the Province at the U21 Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship in Summerside, PEI.

 

Sean Cleary (Senior Male Player of the Year)

Harbour Main native Sean Cleary enjoyed another successful season on the softball diamond in 2016. Sean led the Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs to their fourth consecutive St. John’s Senior Men’s Fastpitch League Championship and was named Playoff MVP for the fourth consecutive year. As a member of the Galway Hitmen, Sean captured his fifth consecutive Canadian Senior Men’s National Championship, was named Top Pitcher of the Qualifying Round and for the third consecutive year was named Top Player (Playoff MVP) of the Championship Round. As a member of the Toronto Gators, Sean helped guide his team to the ISC World Tournament Championship, was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Pitcher and was selected 1st Team All-World Pitcher.

 

Brittany McCarthy (Junior Female Player of the Year)

Placentia native Brittany McCarthy enjoyed success at the local and national levels in 2016. Brittany was co-captain of her Diamonds team that participated in the St. John’s Ladies Fastpitch League and was named her teams Most Outstanding Player for the 2016 season. Brittany was a member of the U21 NL Selects that represented the Province at the U21 Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship in Summerside, PEI. At the U21 Women’s Nationals, Brittany led her team in Hits (5), Batting Average (.385), On Base Percentage (.429) and finished second in Slugging Percentage (.462).

 

Nick Pittman (Junior Male Player of the Year)

Dunville native Nick Pittman had a busy season on the softball diamond at the local, provincial and national levels in 2016. Nick helped Lafontaine Club Bud Light capture their third consecutive St. John’s Intermediate Men’s Fastpitch League crown and was named to the All-League Team as an Outfielder. At the Intermediate Men’s Fastpitch Provincial, Nick was the tournament Top Batter (7-10 .700BA). As a member of the Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians, Nick helped his team to a fourth place finish (5-3 Record) at the U21 Men’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship in Tavistock, ON. Nick also participated in the Canadian Senior Men’s Fastpitch Championship as a member of NL2 WMC/The Bigs Bombers.

 

Jim Dunphy (Adult Coach of the Year)

Holyrood native Jim Dunphy enjoyed a successful season as Head Coach of the Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs at the local and national levels. On the local scene, Jim guided the Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs to their fourth consecutive St. John’s Senior Men’s Fastpitch League Championship and a second place finish in the Hill United Chiefs Rock Invitational. On the national stage, Jim guided the NL1 Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs to a Silver Medal (2nd Place, 7-4 Record) at the Canadian Senior Men’s Fastpitch Championship held in St. John’s. Jim finished the season with a 32-23 Overall Coaching Record (.582 Winning Percentage).
